I am coming there on Business Temp VISA for 4 years Subclass 457. I heard there are lot of insects, flies, spiders etc. Is it really a cause of concern. I lived earlier in UK, I did not find any such thing. Secondly I heard rain is quite heavy there and it affects even transport - buses etc. Your comments please. I have option of going to UK also - M Kumar

Dear Mayank,

I lived in Melbourne from more than 7 years, I am not aware of any problem of insects and all that. Its one of the clean cities. Australia has ver hard quarentine laws and they do not allow anything which could cause trouble in Australia to cross the borders here. Compared to India yes you will find out that here spiders are large size, but then you do not find those at home every day. I only saw large spiders twice in 7 years. Public transport around Melbourne if pretty good, its getting congested due to number of overseas students and immigrants but Govt. is working on it.

Australia does not hold the same buying power has many other countries hold and it imports most of the things from China and you might find things here expensive than other countries. But I have friends who visited UK and also lived in Australia and as per them they will prefer to live in Australia because of QUALITY OF LIFE. A lot of people these days are migrating from UK and other countries to Australia due to different reasons.

Weather here is pleasent it does not go to extreme as UK,US and CANADA does. Normal temprature for Melbourne in Winter is about 19DEG C and in summer about 32-35DEG C. FOr few weeks in summer it could go to 39 in the day time but then again its life we all carry on with it.

There is one note of caution is that in summer we all use Sunscreen lotion with 30+ SPF because of Ozone layer issue with Australia.

Rest if you are planning some other part of Australia they will have different weather and conditions. There are states which are hotter than NSW and VIC.

Hello Rajan,

What will the first step to try for permanent or temporary residency in Melbourne. Do we need to have a job offer from there or we can just apply from our job profile here?

Hi Nisha,

Sorry for the delayed reply. This blog left behind as I continued to be busy with my work. There has been significant changes made to the immigration policies for Australia. There are more policies that were released shortly. As its ever changing and I am not authorised immigration agent i would suggest you to go through the immigration deprtments website, once you have enough understaning and still few doubts you can see a immigration agent. Since you will have quite a bit knowledge you will be able to discuss it in a better way with immigration agent.
